"Food was exquisite, service was not the nicest"

The food was delicate. You could taste the quality of ingredients and how much efforts the chef put when he created the dishes. All dishes were in good combination that you could taste the richness of the interactions among food but at the same time nothing too over. As what is described on the website, the sauces were unique and enlightened the dishes a lot, especially the signature dish Bresse Chicken. It's a dish so good that you won't forget even the next day. The desserts were excellent too. We tried the Parkheuvels Snickers and Strawberries. Parkheuvels Snickers was in incredible combination and presentation, though it was a bit too sweet for me. I would like it better if it was with darker chocolate to balance the sweetness from other ingredients. Yet, it's in the Netherlands so it's still very nice in the Dutch scale of sweetness. Strawberries was splendid. You could smell the berries once it's on your table. The ginger added an interesting highlight to the whole dessert. We loved the freshness and playfulness of it very much. The restaurant is located inside a park, not an easiest place to find. There's sea view but you can't see much when you're inside. The interior was fine but nothing too memorable. I liked the design at the entrance though. Now it's about the service. When we entered the restaurant, the lady at the entrance asked if we wanted her to take care of our jackets. We said no it's fine thanks. She replied, "do you know that we are a two-star Michelin restaurant?" We said yes. She replied with a quick scan from top to bottom of us, "do you want to enter like this?" We were shocked but we didn't say anything else other than yes. There is no dress code listed on the website. I checked before I went. The staff who confirmed my reservation on phone didn't mention anything about dress code as well. Yes we didn't wear rich but we also didn't wear like hobo or dirty but simply some everyday clothes. Our jackets were light ones for the temperature of 18 degrees that should be fine even for indoor. I tried to think of nice reasons for her behavior. Maybe she told us about their stars to assure us that it's safe to give her our jackets. Maybe all she meant was that it's a good restaurant which provides enough heating that jackets were not needed indoor. Yet, all her altitude and tone couldn't help us to convince ourselves that she meant anything other than disrespect. This is the hospitality you get once you enter a two-star Michelin restaurant. We were greatly surprised. The other staff were fine though could be more professional. A staff poured water for us and splashed some drops outside of the glass. When the staff were giving introductions about the dishes, not everyone was friendly or smiled. Sometimes the staff introduced the ingredients in a rush as if he wanted us to leave quicker that we didn't catch everything. We did have a good impression about a rather mature male staff though. He was always professional and friendly when he served the table. We understand that it's a tough job to keep it up all day when the restaurant is busy (though we were there at a midweek's night that the restaurant wasn't full). We didn't act hostile even to the lady at the entrance and I smiled and said thank you every time after the introduction of a dish. It didn't yield a same level of friendliness back to us though. As the lady at the entrance said, it's a two-star Michelin restaurant. We expected a higher standard on service. This was not the first time for us to dine in a Michelin-starred restaurant and the services were much more better at the other restaurants. I'm not sure if it's because we booked with a discount this time but not other times. Anyhow, booking with a discount shouldn't be an excuse for worse service. It's highly unprofessional if it is. To add on, the glasses were not clean enough having obvious marks that we could wipe off. The utensils were quite old and chipped. This is not what we expected at a two-star Michelin restaurant which has a staff at the entrance reinforcing how high class the restaurant is. In short, the food definitely was worth the price and stars, the atmosphere was alright, the service was not very pleasant, and to some extent disappointing.
