Restaurant Yamazato in hotel Okura Amsterdam with a Michelin star awarded, enjoy the authentic Japanese cuisine.
Authentic Classic Cuisine
On the ground floor of the hotel you will find the Okura’s traditional Japanese restaurant Yamazato, a famous place for enjoying authentic Japanese cuisine where more than fifty Japanese specialities are on offer. The Yamazato Restaurant has an authentic, Sukiya-style interior, inspired on the Zen Buddhism from the heyday of the ceremonial houses in the 15th and 16th centuries. The atmosphere is made complete by the Japanese garden right next to the Yamazato Restaurant. You are also welcome to take a seat at the Sushi Bar and for private occasions one of our four private rooms will be at your disposal. For the Japanese breakfast reservations must be made in advance. The Yamazato Restaurant is member of Alliance Gastronomique Néerlandaise.
Yamazato Restaurant again awarded a Michelin-star!
The Japanese specialty restaurant Yamazato received its star in 2002 and is still the only traditional Japanese restaurant with one Michelin star in Europe. Akira Oshima says: "I am honoured to receive a star once again. It’s a recognition of the work all our kitchen and restaurant staff put in."
What a disappointment! I expected so much from this Michelin star restaurant.
The food is good but overpriced. To pay 80EUR for a 200g steack (good but not fantastic) is way too much.
The tempura were too soft and not crunchy at all.
The japanese cake could have been purchased at the airport in Tokyo.
Good point: the sushis are excellent.
The service is above the average but not what it should be in a Michelin star.
One of my colleague went one day after and has also been disappointed while he recommanded me to go there as he has been there before.
One Michelin star? That's a reach! We were a table of 8 and so had to pick a menu in advance, which we did, but it was very generally described. The menu ended up having some interesting bits on it, but for the most part was very pedestrian. Tuna steak was an option for the main, and yet, when we asked could it be seared rare, they said it will be medium! Was the tuna not even sushi grade? The tuna steak was tough and tasteless. And the service? Not up to Michelin star standards. Our waitress wasn't knowledgable about the menu, couldn't answer many questions, and stood at the far end of our long table of eight to explain anything, so most of us couldn't hear her. Our table and the atmosphere was like a glorified diner. All in all a very average experience for the price and hype.

The food, the service, the atmosphere, the decoration-everything about this restaurant was excelent, even the wine and Sake pairing. The presentation of the dishes was magnificent.
Food and service was good , but we were very dissapointed because when we booked through the web side there was a price menu of 55 euros pp. When we arrived they told us that they don´t join the special offers of dinning city week web side.
We were expecting a fix menu of 55 euros per person and the cheapest option I think it was 85 euros.
We went before to another restaurants in dinning city week and restaurants usually have a fix menu with a reduction of price.
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Really good food, impeccably presented and only the best ingredients used. Waiters were diligent, discreet and competent. The lighting could have been a little lower.
Dining with the stars lunch.
Heerlijke gerechten zeer routinematig voorgeschoteld.
